I’m a multidisciplinary millennial and bonafide badass (who occasionally struggles with imposter syndrome).  I was born and raised in Cyprus, and I have moved across continents a few times. As a Mediterranean boss-lady, I make it in the world while fighting for positive change. I built this blog while teaching myself to code. The blog’s theme stems from my interest in activism, photography, sustainability and travel.

Politicised at a Young Age

Since I grew up in a highly politicised region, I intimately understand geopolitics. I’ve been a news enthusiast since I was 6 years old. As a child, I would share sections of the newspaper with my parents at the breakfast table. After all, being informed is a civic duty. At the same age, I participated in my first presidential campaign – stuffing mailers in envelopes and mingling with activists.

Activism in San Francisco

As an activist in college, I dreamed of creating a community that gave hope to and empowered people to be changemakers in their communities. To that end, I helped resurrect the Experimental College at San Francisco State University. The Experimental College enabled students to create their own curriculum. Students taught each other courses while earning credit.

As a Board Member of the San Francisco Freedom School, I was fortunate enough to learn about movement building from veterans of the Southern Freedom Movement (later known as the Civil Rights Movement).

Professional Life

I also have professional working experience in local government in the San Francisco Bay Area. In every working environment I’ve been in, I’ve enjoyed uniting people to change these spaces for the better. With a background in both local government and community activism; I use my varied skillset to continuously grow and educate myself.

Real Talk

In my spare time, I love photography, travelling, listening to music, collecting books and records and practising my skills in mixology. I can also kick ass in scrabble. And of course, who doesn’t enjoy the guilty pleasure of a good show?

Fighting for a Better Tomorrow

I’m a voracious reader who loves to expand my horizons and dream bigger. Through self-study, I have become an ardent environmentalist who believes in our abilities to pursue a more sustainable life. We can preserve the planet we have by fighting for each other and those yet to come.

As a female millennial, I think that each woman who shares her experience is quietly revolting against a system that continues to oppress us. Given my interests, this blog seems like a natural progression.

As a lifelong learner and activist, I care deeply about the future of humanity and our fellow inhabitants on this planet. Sustainable Energy Builder & Educator

Professionally, I’ve created award winning training videos for Tesla. I developed scripts and created voice over instruction on the installation of Sustainable Energy Systems (SES). These training videos equipped other renewable energy workers with the standard operating procedures to install Powerwall, Powerpack and Solar Roof components. Before producing training videos for a living, I trained other solar builders as a Technical Trainer with SolarCity’s Crew Leadership Training. I’ve also installed over 2 megawatts of residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems primarily in Silicon Valley & San Francisco. I led the pre-planning, installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of hundreds of PV systems. All the while, I ensured the safety of my colleagues, clients and community. During this time, I also earned my certification as a California Residential Electrician.

From Social Worker to Studious Builder

Prior to my life as a sustainable energy builder and educator, I renovated both luxury houses in San Francisco and village homes in Cyprus. Yearning for change, I turned my energies to general construction hoping to recover from my previous professional life as a direct care social worker. Building for a living led to me examining various perspectives on rural land use and unsustainable urban consumption. The works of Wendell Berry, Masanobu Fukuoka and Vandana Shiva, among other organic intellectuals, helped me make sense of what truly matters.

Collaborating with Sustainability Practitioners

Currently, back in Cyprus, I’m still collaborating with people who care about sustainability. As a Systems Engineer with a marine technology company, I work with engineers and scientists on international research projects. With the use of autonomous underwater vehicles, we monitor the health of our oceans. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity to collaborate with dedicated colleagues who share a similar perspective.

Another collaborator is the Founder and Editor of this site, my wife, Kathryn. Having met as activists at San Francisco State University, we’ve built spaces, like the Experimental College, where other like-minded people created change from below. Now, we’re sharing lessons from this experience and others since then on this site.

Let’s Dare to Dream & Defy the Odds Together

Whether we know it or not, we’re living through unprecedented changes. Why not more fully harness the sun? It is a life enabler that Elon Musk loves to call our fusion reactor in the sky. Why don’t we do as Fukuoka did by regreening the earth and sowing seeds in the desert?
